Krystal Lleras of Hartford is one of seven students to be named as mentors for Summer Bridge 2012
Goodwin College has named seven students to serve as mentors for the 2012 Summer Bridge Academy, a vigorous six-week course that aids students in their transition from high school to college.
Recently, Goodwin named the following students as mentors. All are currently enrolled at the College and were 2011 graduates of the Summer Bridge Academy: Daniel Baker and Krystal Lleras of Hartford; Daniel Brennan and Gabriela Yambo of Manchester; Shelby Bragdon of Coventry; Laura Scerrato of Newington; and Jenixa Aquino of Agawam, Mass.
The Summer Bridge Academy provides an opportunity for students to gain up to six college credits in Contemporary Music and Urban Limits. Additionally, students receive instruction in leadership development and both Math and English “Boot Camps” designed to bring their skills to college readiness.
In 2011, Goodwin College graduated 45 students from the Summer Bridge Academy. Of those students, almost all went on to attend college, with most choosing to continue their education at Goodwin. Summer Bridge Academy aids students in their transition to the next level and helps develop their values, talents, and skills.
Goodwin offers the Summer Bridge Academy free of charge to students. This year, Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) is helping make that possible through a $15,000 grant.
